Coorg: Paradise Part -1

After planning for ages, we finally went for a holiday to Coorg. This time The other three were determined to go and gave me an ultimatum. I agreed meekly. I am very lazy with holidays. Come to think of it, i am very lazy with everything!!
Let me introduce the other three to you: Anvesh "The kid" (Because he just passed out from class twelve and we love giving him a hard time about his age) Annie, The royal highness ( I call her Your Royal Highness, Anne, The Princess Royale) and Emma "The mother" ( Because she's Bossy and smothers us sometimes : ) )

So we hired a self-drive Indica (I can already hear you all barfing at the name of the car but read on and ye shall discover our adventures) , tanked it up the previous night and left early next morning with a deadly jam-up. In the hurry to leave, we locked ourselves out of the house. Just when it was turning into a major disaster, the friendly neighbour stepped in like a knight (knightess?) in shining armour and promised to get a key made by the time we came back.
There were more mess-ups to come. We got lost getting out of bangalore and lost another hour before we finally hit the Mysore road.
Then with the kid screaming "Food break" and annie screaming "Piddly break", We stopped at the Coffee day near Mandya seventy kilometers out of Bangalore.

After the kid and the girls ate up half the coffee day, we left Mandya and headed for Mysore.
Again lost half an hour getting out of there and taking the road to Madikeri.

Then the most amazing thing happened to the car. We were all having a jolly good time, listening to music from my I-pod (Though the music system in the car was bad) and eating up whatever we had in the car when we stopped to have the tyre pressure checked. I pulled the handbrake and forgot to take it off when we moved again.

After ten kilometers I can smell somethng burning and get off to see what it is. The rear tyres are both smoking and we quickly take the water we have in the car and pore it on the tyres. Turns out, I over heated the drums pretty badly, driving with the hand-brake on.
Thankfully, no harm was done and we moved quickly towards are destination: a village called Suntikoppa , Fifteen kilometers from Madikeri.

We got there and got blown away by the beauty of the place. Lunch was waiting for us. It was quite a spread and served under the patio outside the house. Since we had hired a cottage for two days, the food was also going to be served by the cook there. We were very apprehensive about the food but the cook was very good and all our apprehensions went away.
The cottage was located on a small piece of land, something like an Island. They were breath-taking meadows on both sides and a small stream flowing quietly about a hundred metres from the cottage. It was so quiet and peaceful. I fell in love with the place.

Annie has been kind enough to model for me in these photographs with her eyes closed :)

Anvesh and Emma jumping over the barbed wire fence to get out of the paddy fields.

The photos below are some random snaps that I took: One of the beautiful Flower and the other one of a charming quaint little red brick house belonging to a worker on the coffee plantation.

The car and the patio and the three of them walking upto the cottage.

Anvesh monkeying around yet again!!!

The patio(do not miss the sunlight) and the cottage where we stayed.

After lunch, we headed inside to get some rest and then went out in the evening for a walk and a splash in the river which turned out to be a lot of fun. Then we headed back inside because as it got dark, the mosquitoes were very attracted to us and the light. We had another fine dinner where the mutton chops were exceptional and proceeded to get drunk properly.

Next morning, we headed to madikeri and abbey falls which are very hyped but turned out to be very dirty. We could not even sit down to enjoy the falls as the water stank. We took a couple of photographs and headed out to Madikeri and from there to Tal Cauvery where the Cauvery river begins. It was a long drive upto Tal Cauvery and we bought fresh wild honey which was delicious.

The abbey falls and the Yellow blooms which were present all the way to Abbey falls.

Annie and Emma and Emma and yours truly.
